Sinners or We Are All Bad People: We Can't Do It Without Roses III
About two years ago during some research on Joseph Beuys I came across a performance he did, "we can't do it without roses": title, date, location, but no description available. I've asked around and continue trying to research this performance, but am beginning to doubt it even exists.
Do what? Who are we? Why not?
The first installation I did was a compilation of imagery, roses and text. I was obsessively listening to "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone during this time. I was trying to figure out the semantics of martyr and victim. The second installation repeated, "I'm a bad person, I'm a bad person, I'm a bad person, I'm a bad person, I'm a bad person…" The third makes us all the same.
We are in this together. No matter how moral or ethical we try to be, we will never be entirely good. Therefore we are bad. We are all bad people. I have chosen this truth for us. All for us.
