Quilt

quilting. there is something inexplicably powerful about a group of people coming together over a piece of fabric and lending what they can. the quilt is feminine, warm, pretty. the experience of creating with the help of others breathes compassion and patience. quilts are meant to be soft warm safe home. protecting. even if love is tearing us apart. love will bring us all back together.

while i was sewing i watched mostly audrey hepburn movies and am amazed by a few things.

a) she is gorgeous.
b) her leading men are all basically the same man. they try to resist her charms but are ultimately unable, they are a little bit manipulative (some more than others i.e. linus in sabrina. my favourite exception is the pure-hearted writer paul/’fred baby’ of breakfast at tiffany’s. i think i love him.
c) kissing is taken pretty lightly.
d) everything always turns out ok for audrey. except for in roman holiday, that’s a little bit tragic. but at least she got a sense of what love it.

i also watched donnie darko while i was sewing. love will tear us apart is playing when donnie’s girlfriend goes to his house during the halloween party and they have sex.

i cried more than i have cried in the past few months at the end of this movie. i am a sympathetic crier. if you and i were sitting together and you started crying, i might start crying too. i would probably try to hide it from you by either offering a hug or an arm around you, or by trying to make you laugh - depending on the context.
